Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2024 celebrates chEARs to 15 Years!

Oh boy, oh boy! Registration is coming up fast for the 2024 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend! In fact it’s on Tuesday, March 12 at 10:00 a.m., ET! If you’ve been through the registration process before you know that you need to be online and logged in to your runDisney account ahead of that, really no later than 9:45 before the games begin. If this is your first time through, I recommend checking out my post about registration.

I’m registered for the chal lenge already through Club runDisney, and I told myself that for the 2024-25 season, I don’t need to run all the races, I need to save up some cash. But flerdy schnerken hoopy torp, they had to trot out the Swedish Chef for the 5K mascot, and this child of the 70s cannot resist, bork, bork, bork! So it looks like I get the great joy of joining the masses for general registration on Tuesday to try to score that race. To my knowledge, this is the first-ever Muppet-themed race, so I’m expecting a lot of shenanigans.

Here are the details for the races:

  • 5K – November 1, 2024 – $112
  • 10K – November 2, 2024 – $155
  • Half Marathon – November 3, 2024 – $240
  • Two-Course Challenge (10K+ Half Marathon) – November 2-3, 2024 – $400
  • Post-Race Party – November 3, 2024 – $110 (remember that if you run the Half Marathon/Challenge, your Post-Race Party ticket is included. This is for extra tickets for guests and those not running the Half).

Some race merchandise is available at the time of checkout, though I recommend you actually complete your checkout first and then go back and buy the merch, if you want. Check out this adorable chef’s hat:

Got questions? I can help! Drop a comment, and good luck on registration day!

Royal Review: Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2024

It’s only been a week since the 2024 Princess Half Marathon weekend, but it feels like a lifetime. Even though I was on a solo trip (and working in my hotel room most of the time) I had a blast and want to share some of the good vibes!

The Expo was pretty much typical stuff. Lots of photo opps (lucky princesses got pictures with Cinderella’s coach and some hawwwt footmen), merch that sold out quickly, as per usual, and lots of smiles pumping through the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. I was on a very tight timeline for work, so I didn’t really get to explore much. I guess I dodged a bullet on the expo floor as there was a curling iron vendor that was apparently insulting people and holding them hostage for long periods of time. Yeesh. I hope they’re not invited back!

I did purchase my very first Pandora charms (pro tip for next year: buy them at the main expo rather than at the Advent Health Arena where the runDisney merch is – the line is much shorter at the main expo). Pandora only does runDisney charms at WDW for the Princess Weekend, so I think it will be a very long time before my bracelet is at capacity!

It was great to be back at the well-oiled machine of runDisney in Florida. I feel like I am starting to recognize the event staff, and I know everyone working these events knows exactly what is going on!

I had some really fun costumes this time around. Since I was running alone, I knew I probably wouldn’t be getting too many photo stops on the courses, so I got to Epcot early for some pre-race pics with our princesses.

Character photo lines were epically long during the 5K, of course but I grabbed a couple of non-character photos as I “sped” my way around Epcot. I loved the 10K course and had lots of fun running as Mother Gothel. I didn’t see many people dressed as her, so I felt pretty unique.

The Half Marathon was my most ambitious costume – when I attempted to run as Ray from The Princess and the Frog. I am happy to say I pulled it off. The costume worked particularly well in the dark, and I’ve never had so many compliments on my butt before! Of course it may be that people just couldn’t believe that I was committed to running 13.1 miles with a giant glowing beach ball attached to my backside. It honestly wasn’t that annoying. The worst part was that it was attached at the shoulders (via a laundry bag) to a vest. The vest of course was pulled by the ball, with a lovely strangling effect, so I had to keep pulling the vest down to ensure I continued breathing. Yes, I know rule #1 of running in a costume is always do a test run, but, whatever…. Oh, and those incredible Ray eyes were painted by my daughter!

I had the misfortune of drawing corral E, but luckily was in the first wave. I stuck to my 30:30 intervals, and fortunatley never saw the balloon ladies. It was really a great sense of relief when I knew I was “safe”. Starting in the back is always scary, but now I really know that I can make the best of it. I didn’t stop for any photos, but at some point I probably could have. I was just on a mission!

Speaking of starting in the back, I really would be remiss if I didn’t give a huge shout-out to the Dead Last Start crew. What is DLS? In short it’s a bunch of crazy people who start last, with the Balloon Ladies and see how many people they can pass. Usually they do it for fun, but sometimes they do it for charity, and this weekend, they made a huge impact. You see, sadly, one of the Balloon Ladies lost her son suddenly and unexpectedly just after the Disneyland Half Marathon. The only silver lining was that Trevor Doyle’s organs were donated to four individuals. The Dead Last Start runners created a fundraiser, that last time I checked had raised over $39,000 to support organ donor families. Holy cow. That gives me chills just thinking about it. If you would like to donate in Trevor’s memory, here’s the link:

And with that, it’s time to think about Springtime Surprise, and Wine and Dine registration is coming up fast! More to come this week!

Princess Weekend 2024 Preview: Maps and Tips

So.. the dust from yesterday’s Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon registration is hopefully settling a bit. Congrats to those who got the races they wanted. If you were one of the many who were disappointed, I feel you, and I am so sorry. I’ve been there. If you’re up for fundraising, I’ll offer up some fundraising options the week after Princess. But today’s task at hand is… PRINCESS!

The maps have been released, so I’ll share them here, with my very brief commentary. In general I have one over-arching comment. Other than January’s impromptu “half of a half”, I don’t think I’ve ever seen less park time during a challenge that doesn’t include the 5K.

5K

This is pretty standard 5K stuff. What’s new lately is a diversion through the newly-reopened center of World Celebration and a photo op with the “Dreamer’s Point” statue of Walt. There’s also a quick jog past the queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. That’s just a tease of course. Getting a virtual queue for that is as hard as getting a registration for this race.

10K

I have to be honest here. I’ve done plenty of 10Ks at Disney World where we have hit two parks, but unless I have early onset alzheimer’s, I am pretty sure there was way more park time than this.

From the start line the first 3 miles are all highway until we get to the “Studios.” I put that in quotes because if you happen to sneeze while running down Sunset Boulevard, you might miss the whole thing. That’s it. “Rockin’ Roller Coaster on your right, Tower of Terror on your left, Photopass, Photopass, please exit, buh-bye!”

Then it’s the Narrows of Death to the Boardwalk, and not even a loop of the World Showcase (WTF??), a drive-by of United Kingdom and Canada, and a very fast exit out the usual way…

Sorry, just feeling a little empty here…

Half Marathon

So first of all, I apologize these images are so small. This is all that runDisney makes available. The huge posters will be on view at the expo. For now, you’re stuck with my memory, or alternatively, you can use Google maps, which could potentially be more accurate…

Anyway. We are launched from the start in the darkness into lots and lots and lots (6 miles) of highway running.

We have a euphoric 10-20 minutes in Magic Kingdom.

We return to highway running for 6 miles.

We do not run the World Showcase Lagoon.

We get some medals.

The end.

I’ll be honest, of all the runDinsey races I have run, this one has my head scratching the most. Disclaimer: I never ran Princess Half before, but I have run many runDisney races. I don’t have time to go and research all the past courses. Maybe this is normal. But I’m already feeling a little gypped looking at the courses. I’m not sure if that’s coming from being a veteran runner. I am trying to put myself in the sneakers of someone who has never done this before: that princess/prince is probably excited no matter what they see. I, on the other hand am mapping out every square inch of park time and calculating my value per registration dollar. Probably not the right approach for someone who loves this as much as I do.

*New* Tips

OK, I’ve been ranting about the courses. I apologize. I do have a couple of new tips to share. Hoping someone finds them useful:

  • Driving in? Stay to the left as you enter Epcot. As left as you can. This gives you the best chance of parking in the lots on the left. Your feet will thank you after the race.
  • Get there EARLY for great photos there will be Photopass ops with major characters before the race, but the lines will be impossible by 4:15 or so. if you want a really great photo, get there earlier than that and score.
  • Want to be interviewed on the big screen? Do you have a great costume, story or just want to say hello to the whole runDisney community? Stay to the far right of the corral. I mean farrrrr right, and hug the barrier. No guarantees, of course, but if you’re on the other side, they’ll never see you.

OK, that’s all my pre-Princess wisdom. With a foot of snow surrounding me, I really can’t wait to get to Orlando next week. Please drop a comment if you’ll be there!

Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Registration is coming… try not to be scared!

It’s hard to believe that in the midst of the racing season, it’s already time for the other half of this sport – registration season! A challenge in its own right.

So now that races are back in Disneyland, this is a whole new race weekend scheduled in September, with a Halloween theme, because, um, maybe the Retail Marketing Association said it was OK because it’s after Labor Day? The themes look awesome, and I’ll be sad to be sitting this one out, but bank account says, “No, girl, no.”

Anyway, here are a few of the highlights, with details to follow:

  • Sept 5-8, 2024 at Disneyland in Anaheim
  • Prices have gone up a bit, but photos will be included (if they actually hire photographers…)
  • There will be yoga offered
  • There will be kids races

Chip and Dale will host the 5K race. Keep in mind that the 5K is not part of the Challenge, if you want to run all the races, you’ll need a separate registration for the 5K.

The Hitchiking Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion will headline the 10K run, and Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Clarabelle Cow will be dressed as the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus to host the half marathon. (Adorable, right?)

September 7-8, 2024

If your’re going for the 10K and half marathon, it’s the Chills and Thrills Challenge, led by Jack, Sally and Zero!

Registration for Club runDisney Gold and Platinum Members starts on February 6, 2024, via email. If you’re going for general registration, its on Tuesday, February 13, at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT. If you have never registered for a runDisney event before, do yourself a favor and get yourself an account set up now on the runDisney site. You don’t want to be trying to mess with that in the heat of registration.

Prices are as follows:

  • Yoga: $130 – Includes a mat
  • 5K: $120
  • 10K: $175
  • Half Marathon: $260
  • Chills & Thrills Challenge: $440
  • Kids Races: $40

Also, I know this will come as sad news to some of you, but it appears that runDisney will no longer be offering virtual options for in-person race weekends. Sorry. I don’t make the news, I just report it.

Are you planning on registering? Drop a comment! I’d love to live vicariously through your trip!

Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend 2024: Fun, But…

So after two solid weeks of travel I’ve been home sweet home for a week and happy to say I have run zero miles in that time. The weather during Marathon Weekend in Orlando was unsettled and not exactly warm. The weather in Anaheim was downright cold and I feel like I needed to come home, stay inside and thaw out after way too many early mornings shivering at the start line.

So first things first, it was wonderful to finally run a race at Disneyland and feel like a more “complete” runDisney runner. I expected lots of things to be new and different. But I didn’t expect everything to be new and different. In fact the only thing that really felt familiar at all was Carissa Galloway’s face. She was not joined by her usual announcing crew but a southern California local, by the name of Matt Starkey. It was a noticably smaller event with a much, much different vibe.

Now I want to give the Disneyland team some grace, because a race has not been held there in seven years, but it felt like they hadn’t spent much time talking to the runDisney team in Florida, or anyone who had organized Disneyland races in the past. This year’s events were critically understaffed, the castmembers unprepared, and there were some GLARING safety misses. I imagine there was a hell of a post-mortem meeting on Monday morning.

I don’t want to focus on just the negative though, because there was really lots to love about the race weekend. The 5K started inside Disneyland Park! We were lined up along Main Street, which was lit with projections, and the whole street lit up with fireworks at the start. Unfortunately that was the only time we saw fireworks the whole weekend, which is pretty understandable, considering the other races started in a parking lot in a downtown area ringed by hotels.

The 5K course was entirely contained within the two parks (and some backstage areas), so it was basically all fun and new to me. Unfortunately there were VERY few Photopass photgraphers on the course. A lot of the photo stops for the whole weekend were the type where you had to pass your phone to someone and hope for the best. And those safety issues I was mentioning –at one point we were running thorugh a completely dark corridor (wasn’t quite a tunnel, because there was no roof). Like almost pitch black. I saw so many people taking tumbles over the weekend, with unannounced hazards everywhere. Not once did we ever hear “Caution, runners….”

The 10K and Half were staged along a street and in a parking lot, which had their own issues, all self-inflicted unfortunately. The first challenge was security. Disneyland has yet to invest in the high-tech scanners that allow most bags to pass through without a hand-check. So every single bag going in had to be hand-checked. To make matters worse, many of the metal detectors they brought in were not working, so the backup at security was lengthy. I heard that later they relaxed the process because otherwise they never would have gotten everyone through before the start time.

Apparently I actually got there too early because the corrals were not open, and I was told I needed to walk all the way around the perimeter of the enormous parking lot (which was fenced in) to enter the staging area. I was not particularly thrilled about any extra walking since it was already a long cold walk from my hotel that I would have to reverse after my race. To make matters worse, I was passed by other participants who had walked all the way around and were told to turn around and walk back the other way. WHAT???? This is going back to my point about the cast members being unprepared. Frankly it felt like no one really knew what was going on. I trudged forward and entered the staging area, and did get a nice surprise.

I literally had a front row view of Carissa and Matt introducing Daisy and Donald (who overslept and showed up in his pajamas). In Florida, I would never have the opportunity to be anywhere near the stage, so this was a bit of a treat! After their intro, the corrals were open, so I trudged all the way back to where I had come in and found my way to the last corral. Boo. We were such second-class citizens back there, there weren’t any speakers. With no fireworks, or anything, I didn’t even know when the race started. For real. One thing I did like was that they pretty much let the entire corral go at once – none of these interminal wave 1, wave 2, wave 10, etc. Even being in the last corral, I was over the start line by 5:25, which is good, because I think my toes were starting to freeze off!

The 10K was totally duck-themed, which I loved. Apparently I missed seeing Ludwig von Drake on the course, which I am a bit bummed about, but oh well. I didn’re really have time for character stops anyway. There was a bit of street running, which is to be expected. Overall, I have the same feedback. Not enough photographers. Not enough volunteers. Not enough safety precautions.

The biggest complaint you’ll probably hear from anyone about the weekend was the now infamous mile 3 water stop during the half marathon. Traffic ground to a halt and backed up as the volunteers couldn’t keep up as they placed a water stop in a very confined space, presumably to contain the paper cup waste to a small area. The problem got worse as the morning wore on, but I probably got through in 3 minutes, according to my Garmin. I did grab a photo, for posterity.

Mile 3 Water Stop

The rest of the half marathon was a bit of a different story since there were several miles of street running after the parks. Even though I heard a host of complaints, honestly it didn’t bother me much. Running in the parks was always confined and a bit dangerous. It was nice to be able to spread out and let down the concentration factor a bit. Most of the streets we ran were in industrial neighborhoods. I’m pretty sure we weren’t bothering anyone at 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning.

We ran to the Honda Center where the Anaheim Ducks play. Here I was educated that the appropriate response to the song “Sweet Caroline” is not “bah, bah, bah…” but “quack, quack, quack…” Who knew??? Just past the Honda Center was Blizzard Beach. I mean Angels Stadium. Oof. They didn’t properly prepare us for the torture of the winding course that was hidden in the parking lot behind the stadium, like an extra room or two in an E-ticket attraction queue that you’ve already been standing in for an hour and a half. They tried to make it more cheerful with a band, some representatives from the Tournament of Roses Parade (who looked quite splendid in their sharp white suits) and a bunch of classic cars, but we all saw it for what it really was. Just another damn Blizzard Beach.

Finally, I want to give a shout out to some of the spectators who really cheered us up along the way. Unfortunately I didn’t grab any pics. There were some black stormtroopers holding signs demanding the return of the Star Wars races, and someone set up their own character stop on the sidewalk that looked like the house from Up. Bravi, and thank you for bringing some joy to the city streets!

I know a lot of this sounded negative. Overall, it was a great experience, but the west coast does have a lot of work to do before their next races to bring it up to the level we deserve (and pay for). These were just my experiences. I also heard some other horror stories, particularly from athletes with disabilites – but those aren’t my stories to tell since I didn’t experience them first-hand. I am confident they can learn from this, but they need to hire a whole lot more people and be willing to admit where the mistakes were made.

If you were at the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend and want to share your experience, please drop a comment!

Dopey to Dumbo! Looking Back at Marathon Weekend and Looking Forward to Disneyland

It’s D2D and C2C! After some fun (and very little sun) in Florida I returned home in the northeast to take care of some business, which included ungodly amounts of smelly laundry and a regroup for Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. Despite the weather, it was a memorable weekend.

I don’t have a ton of wisdom to share. There were the usual gripes about merchandise at the expo, this time about jackets. I was slightly amused to learn that the theme of the weekend was the “60s through the 90s”. Nobody told us that ahead of time, and frankly, there was very little theming on the courses. Neither the music nor the characters that really punched it home, but, whatever. I was with my favorite people in my favorite place.

Of course the biggest news of the weekend is that the half marathon was cut short due to the weather forecast. Early on, lightning was predicted. That, never, (thankfully) materialized but there was rain which got progressively worse throughout the morning. So much worse, in fact, that the course was cut even shorter in-progress. Earlier starters got 7.1 miles. Later starters got 6-ish miles. I was in the “lucky” group that didn’t get pulled from the course, but it really wasn’t that much fun out there. It was wet. It was cold. It was slippery. Characters were pulled. Photographers were pulled. You get it. I risked getting in a bus for a pic with a beloved character (Marie!), and I don’t regret it one bit!

For me personally, I was really challenged by the marathon. I knew my training was a bit under-par going in, so I wasn’t whining too much when the Half Marathon was cut short. My running partner and I had some great costumes for the 5K and 10K, and I finally got my much-desired medal-haul pic in front of the castle. My slow pace denied my a chance to ride Everest during the marathon, and I guess I’ll just have to let that one go. Given how much this one hurt, I think 2024 might be the nail in the coffin for my full marathons. It was a good run.

So now I am looking ahead to Disneyland. Weather has been awful the last two days and many folks trying to get from Orlando to Anaheim have been diverted or stuck. Fingers crossed, I’ll be OK to fly tomorrow. There is still some time. And I still have a costume to make.

Were you at Marathon Weekend? Drop a comment! Joining for Coast to Coast? Let’s hear about your travels!!

Disneyland Half Marathon Preview: Maps and Merch!

So, first-off I am going to throw a disclaimer out there – I’m and East Coast girl and I have only been to Disneyland once, and it wasn’t for a race. That being said I’ve been doing my homework and I am very excited about the upcoming return of the Disneyland races! It was right about when I decided to return to runDisney races that Disneyland went on hiatus and I was so disappointed. Finally I get to feel a little more “complete” as a Disney runner (but still won’t feel settled until / if Disneyland Paris resumes).

Ayway, without further ado, here are the long-awaited course maps:

5K

I gotta say this course looks like absolute perfection to me! We get to hit the highlights of both parks and nothing more. It does look like there’s a bit of street running, but it’s pretty minimal, so the course promises lots and lots of park fun.

What I find interesting is that it looks like the start line is inside Disneyland Park, and the corrals may be lining up along Main Street. That sounds like a very fun start to me, but please note that spectators will not be permitted in, so plan accordingly. According to the race guide, spectators will be permitted at the finish line.

10K

The 10K hits pretty much the same paths in the parks, though not in the same order, and some more street running. Start and finish will be in the parking area behind the corner of Disney Way and Harbor Boulevard. Today we’ll hit Disney’s California Adventure before crossing the plaza to Disneyland Park.

The run up Main Street towards the castle is a tease, because we’ll take a quick left to head thorugh Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Galaxy’s Edge, Frontier Land and THEN the castle. From there, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Mickey’s Toontown, and out onto the mean (?) streets of Anaheim back to the finish line.

Half Marathon

Now this was a highly anticipated course prior to it’s release, but I have heard some grumbling. Let’s be honest, there’s just not a lot of land in California for Disney to work with so there’s really not another option besides lots and lots of street running.

My only real complaint is that all the parks running is at the start ot the race rather than the end, leaving us I’m not sure what to look forward to while we’re out in the wilds of Anaheim. I really don’t even know what they do for character stops and entertainment once we’re off-property, but for sure I’ll be writing about it when it’s all over.

I’m definitely finding things to get excited about:

  • I’ll be running in new places
  • We’ll be running along Cerritos Ave. (Star Trek Lower Decks fans will understand). For sure I’ll be doing a character stop with a street sign!
  • We’ll be running out to the Honda Center parking lot (where the Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks play). Considering Honda is the presenting sponsor of the race weekend, I’m expecting some outstanding entertainment, or at least a free car or generator or something
  • It looks like we’ll also pass by the baseball stadium where the Anaheim Angels play

All in all I’m sure it will be very fun, and with some luck I’ll be getting Dumbo and Coast to Coast medals at the end of the race. Fingers crossed I survive!!

The Merch

The Disneyland merch options look pretty similar to what’s being offered for Marathon Weekend, but with “The Return” motif. I definitely will be grabbing a “We’re back” t-shirt.

So what do you think of the courses and the merch and the courses? Drop a comment! Are you a Disneyland regular? Can you share some insights? PLEASE drop a comment! I can’t wait to hear from you!

Preview the 2024 Marathon Weekend 2024 Merch!

So runDisney didn’t make a big splashy blog-post reveal of the marathon weekend merch, but they did trickle a few images to us on Instagram. For sure what they’re sharing is just a small portion of what technically should be available. With the perennial sellouts and shortages, maybe they’re trying to keep expectations low… who knows. That being said, it’s not a bad-looking batch of goodies.

We have the usual suspects: ears, shirts, jackets, Loungeflys, and a couple of newer offerings, including a cross-body bag that will hold a water bottle (Corksicle?).

There will of course be pins, ornaments, magnets, and various other items. You can count on anything that says “Dopey Challenge” to sell out in a hot second.

While I generally like the designs and the colors this year, I’m taking a very close look at the picture of those Marathon Weekend ears…the logo looks like it might be awkwardly crooked. Last year at Princess all the ears were crooked and they looked really dumb. I’d inspect these very carefully before dropping $35 on them!

Jan 3 update: I just saw the ears, and the logo is on a spring, so it will definitely always be crooked (on purpose)!

Remember, to shop on the first day of the expo, you’ll need to join the Virtual Queue, accessible thorugh the My Disney Experience app.

Marathon Weekend 2024 Course Maps

runDisney revealed a TON of info over the last few days, releasing the event guides for both WDW Marathon Weekend and Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend within hours of each other. Today we’ll cover what’s new for Marathon Weekend. I’ll need a minute to study the Disneyland maps since I am much less familiar with the lay of the land in Anaheim.

Course Higlights

Now that many of the construction walls are finally down at Epcot (it’s true! I saw it with my own eyes last weekend) I was really hoping to be routed under Spaceship Earth for the finishes, but alas, that is not to be. It looks like all the finishes will take the path we’ve used in recent years behind Mission Space and backstage around Cosmic Rewind. There also look to be some pretty significant changes to the half and full start locations. And finally, while I’m not sure this is really a highlight, it looks like they are doubling- down on time spent in the Blizzard Beach parking lot. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

5K

The 5K course looks to be pretty typical, with a start at the back of the parking lot and a skirt of the perimiter before entering the World Showcase by the smelly garbage bins between Mexico and Norway.

One lap around the lagoon and we’ll be headed back towards the finish line, with one fun update. It looks like the course will go through the newly-opened World Celebration area before a “fly-by” of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Then we’re off to the finish for some plastic cheese and green bananas.

10K

The 10K map doesn’t really hold any surprises. From the start line, we head in the opposite direction and get all the boring highway miles out of the way first. This is definitely the way I like to do it!

We return to Epcot through the bus lot and backstage behind The Seas and The Land and emerge to head towards World Showcase. That’s just a tease though, because there is an almost immediate detour through the Boardwalk area before we come back to finish the World Showcase loop. Then it’s business-as-usual back to the finish line.

Half Marathon

So here’s where we see the biggest change this year. In the past, the half and full marathons have started out on World Drive, but this year they will be starting from the same parking lot start line as the shorter races. In some ways, this should come as welcome news because it will eliminate the seemingly miles-long walk to the start line, but may create some congestion issues at the start. Please pay attention to corral open and close times.

The course itself is focused around getting the runners to and from the Magic Kingdom, with all the highway in between. We won’t even see the World Showcase on this day. Sorry!

Marathon

The marathon course starts like the 5K, but quickly changes it up as we’ll enter Epcot through World Discovery, cut across the park and then literally hit the road for Magic Kingdom.

After MK is the long trudge to Animal Kingdom via backstage roads where we get to see all kinds of things guests weren’t really meant to see.

A dip in and out of AK and the we’re on our way to the worst, worst, WORST idea runDisney every had – soul-crushing loops in the Blizzard Beach parking lot. Those who survive will be forwarded on to see not very much of Hollywood Studios. But let’s face it, at this point, will you really care? You might be dreaming of that potentially ripe banana (it can happen on Sunday), that margarita in Mexico, or just waiting for the pain to stop. It’s a quick trip via the Boardwalk back to Epcot, to the crowd, to the margaritas, the choir, and all that well-deserved bling. Congratulations, finishers!

How do you like this year’s courses? Any questions? Drop a comment!

Medal Monday: 2 Duds and a Shrub

So after an interminably long wait, runDisney finally revealed the new “Coast to Coast” medals, and they are truly underwhelming. I was hoping for something colorful, or at least super classy for the return of this much-missed event. Instead we got two medals that are brownish, and look pretty cheap generic.

Now they haven’t specified which medal is for Track 1 (or as I call it “Dopey to Dumbo”) and which is for Track 2, which is completing the required distances in any order other than Marathon Weekend followed immediately by Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, but I am guessing the one that looks like a license plate is the Track 1 option. I actually find that slightly hillarious since the race weekends are just a few days apart, the chances of anyone driving between Orlando and Anaheim are pretty much zero. They should have made it look like a plane or a jet engine, or Disney 100, or “Partners” or two castles or literally ANYTHING else. Oh well, they sucked me in with the “special medal you can only get for Track 1 in 2024” marketing. They got my money. Who’s laughing now?

On a slightly more positive note, I just finished up a (non-Disney) 12Ks of Christmas virtual race and that medal, at least is adorable!

Yes, that is my completley undecorated Christmas tree in the background. Please don’t remind me that there are just 6 days ’till Christmas. I still have some Dopey miles to get in!

What do you think of the medal reveal? Drop a comment!
